My name is Jacob Grice. I am a composer and violist based in Tallahassee, FL. Being an active performer, I strive to create music that is both fun to play for musicians, and enjoyable to listen to for a wide variety of audiences. Please check out my recordings of past performances as well as links to upcoming performances below. Enjoy!
For Viola and Piano
Viola Sonata No.1
My viola sonata is written as a love letter to my instrument. I took inspiration from some of the greatest composers who helped bring the viola into the limelight, such as Rebecca Clarke, Claude Debussy, and Bela Bartok. Being a performer myself, I aimed to write a piece that is as fun to play as it is to listen to.

For String Orchestra
Gothic Fantasy
The Gothic Fantasy is based entirely around a simple, five-note motif; first it is heard in the opening measures of the dark, organ-like prelude, then again in the following fugue. It is even heard throughout the allegro section in the form of ghoulish dances, and wistful chants.
For Solo Cello
Variations on a Theme by Khachaturian
The Variations on a Theme by Khachaturian features four variations on his well-known Adagio from the ballet Gayane (which was also famously used in the film "2001: A Space Odyssey.") After a short intro, the variations are played one after another before the theme is unveiled at the end.
Polymorphia is excited to present a very special performance as a part of Silenced Voices concert series. This concert will entirely consist of music by the leading composers from Soviet era - the composers who faced difficulties in expressing their art freely
